Use the following procedure during assembly of the

three-piece exhaust manifold to the cylinder block.
Exhaust Elbow
1. Mounting surfaces should be clean, and dry. In
SMCS Code: 1061
addition, mounting surfaces should be free of
any other foreign matter.
2. Apply 2P-2333 High Temperature Sealer to the
outside diameter of the male ends of the exhaust
manifold. Do not apply the sealer at the tip of
the male ends. Remove any excess sealer from
the assembled joint.

(1) Tighten the nut for the clamp to the following
Three-piece exhaust manifold
torque. .......................... 12 4 Nm (9 3 lb ft)
Typical example
3. Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the
i01842851
threads of bolt (1) through bolt (12).
Camshaft
4. Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (12) in a numerical
sequence.
SMCS Code: 1210
Tighten the bolts to the following
torque. ........................... 4 1 Nm (35 9 lb in)
5. Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (12) in a numerical
sequence.
Tighten the bolts to the following
torque. .......................... 45 5 Nm (33 4 lb ft)
6. Lock the tabs and bend the tabs (13) over the
flat of the bolt heads.
7. Tighten the studs (14) to a torque of 35 5 Nm
(26 4 lb ft).

Note: Prior to starting or running the engine, allow
(1) New thrust washer thickness ... 4.70 0.03 mm
the sealant in the exhaust manifold joints to air dry
(0.185 0.0012 inch)
for 24 hours.
End play of a new camshaft .......... 0.13 0.08 mm
(0.005 0.0031 inch)
Maximum permissible end play of a worn
camshaft ................................ 0.46 mm (0.018 inch)

journals ............................... 65.126 0.013 mm
