TORQUE LIMITS
D-1. SCOPE.
This section provides general torque limits for the screws, hoses and fittings used on the truck. Special torque limits
are listed in the maintenance procedures for applicable components. The general torque limits given in this appendix
shall be used when specific torque limits are not indicated in the maintenance procedure. These general torque limits
cannot be applied to screws that retain rubber components. The rubber components will be damaged before the torque
limit is reached. If a special torque limit is not given in the maintenance instructions, tighten the screw or nut until it
touches the metal bracket then tighten it one more turn.
D-2. TORQUE LIMITS.
Table D-1 lists the torque limits for wet flange nuts. Table D-2 lists the torque limits for wet socket head capscrews.
Table D-3 lists dry torque limits for capscrews. Dry torque limits are used on screws that do not have high pressure
lubricants applied to the threads. Table D-4 lists wet torque limits for capscrews. Wet torque limits are used on
screws that have high pressure lubricants applied to the threads. Table D-5 lists the torque limits for SAE 37 degree
flare hose connections. Table D-6 lists the torque limits for SAE 45 degree flare hose connections. Table D-7 lists the
torque limits for ORS preformed packing face seal hose connections. Table D-8 lists the torque limits for NPSM
swivel connections.
