WIRE ROPE OR CABLE DAMAGED
General:
A wire rope or cable is the most important single item in vehicle recovery. The
most common use in military units is for winch cables.
Wire rope is made of many
wires twisted together to make a strand.
The strands are then twisted together
around the core, making a rope.
If wire becomes untwisted or frayed and special
fittings are unavailable, the seizing method is recommended.
One of the simplest and quickest eye splices for field use is the Flemish eye or
Molly Hogan, sometimes referred to as the rolled-in eye splice.
It is especially
applicable to preformed wire rope.
