13. ENGINE LUBRICATING 0IL AT EXHAUST
Step 1.
Check for too much oil in valve mechanism compartment.
Check if there is a plug in each end of rocker shaft. Install plug(s), if
necessary (page 3-95).
Inspect valve guides (page 3-30).
Step 2.
Replace valve guide that does not meet specifications (page 3-30).
Inspect piston rings (page 3-77).
Step 3.
Replace piston rings, if necessary (page 3-77)0
END OF TESTING!
14. EXCESSIVE EXHAUST SMOKE (BLACK OR GRAY SMOKE )
Step 1.
Check turbocharger for proper operation.
Repair turbocharger, if necessary (page 4-18).
Step 2.
Check for fuel in engine lubricating oil.
a.
If fuel is present, test fuel injection nozzles (page 4-8).
Reinstall
original, good nozzle and replace defective nozzle TM5-241O-237-2O).
b.
Drain engine lubricating oil, install new oil filter, and refill
crankcase (TM5-241O-237-2O).
Step 3.
Check fuel injection timing (page 4-26).
Adjust timing, if necessary (page 4-26).
15. EXCESSIVE EXHAUST SMOKE (WHITE OR BLUE SMOKE)
Step 1.
Check fuel injection timing (page 4-26).
Adjust timing, if necessary (page 4-26).
Step 2.
Inspect piston rings (page 3-77).
Replace piston rings, if necessary
Step 3.
Inspect the cylinder head for worn valve guides (page 3-30).
Repair cylinder head, if necessary (page 3-30).
