FLASH CODE: 12 J1587   CODE: P187 3- POWER  TAKE  OFF  (PTO)  INPUT  FAILED  HIGH  (HIGH  VOLTAGE) (ALSO CALLED VARIABLE SPEED GOVERNOR - VSG) NOTE  - This chart is only to be used if: 1) All basic mechanical checks and physical inspections have been performed with no problem found, and 2) Diagnosis of DDEC-lll was started at step START-1, pg H-25 and you have now been referred here. STEP/SEQUENCE 12-1 Multiple   Code   Check l Were  there  any  other  active  codes besides  Code  187/3? 12-2 Sensor Check l Turn  ignition  off. l Unplug  the  vernier  control connector. l Turn  ignition  on. l Read  active  codes. 12-3  Return  Circuit  Check l Transmission  in  neutral. l Turn  ignition  off. l install  a  jumper  wire  between  pin A  and  pin  B  of  the  vernier  control connector. l Disconnect  the  vehicle  harness connector  at  the  ECM. l Turn  ignition  on. l Position  left  ENGINE  SPEED CONTROL  stitch  to  HIGH ENGINE IDLE and press PUSH TO LOCK ENGINE @ HIGH IDLE switch. l Read  resistance  between  sockets C3 (952) and D1 (510) on the vehicle   harness   connector. 12-4 Check   Vernier Control  Connectors l Inspect  terminals  at  the  vernier control  connectors  (sensor  side and  harness  side)  for  damage; bent,  corroded,  and  unseated pins  or  sockets. No  other  active  codes Yes,  either  code 91/3 or 4. Yes - but none of  the  above. Any  codes except  Code  187/3. Code  187/3  (and  any other  codes). Less  than  or equal to 5 ohms. Greater  than 5 ohms or open. Terminals  and connectors  are  okay. Problem   found. WHAT  TO  DO  NEXT Go   to   12-2. Go to VEH5V-1 , page H-247. Go   to   12-2. Go   to   12-3. Go   to   12-5. Repair  open.  Then  go  to  12-30. (para 7-76). Then go to 12-30. Repair   terminals/connectors (para  7-77).  Then  go  to  12-30. H-111
