MALFUNCTION
TEST or INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
CAUTION
1. No Recovery - Continued.
To prevent damage to power steering pump during perfor-
mance of step f, do not allow load valve to be closed for more
than 5 seconds.
With engine idling, close If pressure is less than 900 psi
(f)
load valve and read pressure (62.07 bars), Replace power
gage. Pressure must be 900 steering pump (WP 0264 00).
to 1000 psi (62.07 to 68.97
bars).
3. Check for sufficient pump flow
as follows:
(a)  Perform steps a through e of
step 2.
WARNING
Maximum flow rate is 7 gpm (26.5 liters/min). Flow rate in
excess of 7 gpm (26.5 liters/min) will damage steering gear and
could cause loss of steering and injury to personnel.
(b) With engine idling, read Replace power steering pump
flow meter. Rate of flow (WP 0264 00).
must be 7 gpm (26.5 liters/
min).
With engine idling, close Replace power steering pump
(c)
load valve until pressure (WP 0264 00).
gage indicates pump relief
and pump relief pressure
drops to 0. Immediately
open load valve. Flow rate
must return to 7 gpm (26.5
liters/min).
(d) Run engine at 2100 rpm and Replace power steering pump
fully close load valve until (WP 0264 00).
pressure  gage  indicates
pump relief and flow rate
drops to 0. Immediately
open load valve. Flow rate
must return to 7 gpm (26.5
liters/min).
4. Check for defective teflon seals Replace steering gear (WP 0265
in steering control valve.
5. Check for steering gear control Replace steering gear (WP 0265
valve sticking.
