TM 5-2420-222-20-2 TIE ROD - CONTINUED ACTION LOCATION ITEM REMARKS CLEANING - CONTINUED WARNING Drycleaning solvent P-D-680 is toxic and flammable.   Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only  in  a  well  ventilated  area.      Avoid  contact  with  skin,  eyes,  and  clothes  and  don’t  breathe vapors.   Do not use near open flame or excessive heat.   The flashpoint is 1000F to 1380F (380 to 590C).      If  you  become  dizzy  while  using  cleaning  solvent,  get  fresh  air  immediately  and  get medical  aid.      If  contact  with  eyes  is  made,  wash  your  eyes  with  water  and  get  medical  aid immediately. 18. All other metal a. Clean in drycleaning solvent. parts b. Using clean, dry rags, wipe dry. INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT NOTE For  more  information  on  how  to  inspect  parts,  go  to  General  Maintenance  Instructions  (page  2- 137).Replace defective parts which cannot be repaired. 19. All metal parts Look for cracks, breaks, and adnormal bends. 22. All threaded parts Look for damaged threads. REPAIR 23. Left and right tie If ball stud threads are damaged, using rod end sockets screw threading set, restore threads. (2 and 3) ASSEMBLY 24. Left and right tie Two lubrication Screw in and tighten using 7/16-inch rod end sockets fittings (4) open-end wrench. (2 and 3) 25. Tube (5) Right tie rod a. Position tube (5) in machinist’s vise. end socket (3) b. Look at matchmarks on tube (5) and socket (3) to ensure proper placement. c. Using 1/2 to 1 1/2-inch adjustable pipe 2-932
