TM 5-2420-222-20-2 TIE ROD - CONTINUED ACTION LOCATION ITEM REMARKS DISASSEMBLY 10. Tube (1) and two Two screws (3), a. Position tube (4) in machinist’s vise. clamps (2) lockwashers (4), b. On loader backhoes with Serial and nuts (5) Numbers 235786 thru 235999, using 11/16-inch, 1/2-inch drive socket, ratchet handle, and 5/8-inch box wrench, unscrew and take apart. c. On loader backhoes with Serial Numbers 319995 thru 342573, using 3/4-inch, 1/2-inch drive socket, ratchet handle, and 3/4-inch box wrench, unscrew and take apart. d. Get rid of lockwashers (4).. 11. Left and right Two dust covers (8) Take off. tie rod end sockets (6 and 7) 12. Tube (1) Two clamps (2) a. Using 15 to 16-inch pry bar, spread apart. b. Using 3-pound head cross-peen hammer, tap off. CAUTION Be sure to matchmark tie rod end sockets and tube.   Right side parts have right-hand threads, left side parts have left-hand threads.   If tie rod end socket is installed in wrong end of tube, parts will be damaged. 13. Left tie rod a. Using machinist’s scriber, matchmark end socket (6) tube (1) and socket (6) for proper placement during assembly. b. Note number of exposed threads and relative position for proper placement during assembly. c. Using 1/2 to 1 1/2-inch adjustable pipe wrench, unscrew by turning clockwise and take out. 14. Right tie rod a. Using machinist’s scriber, matchmark end socket (7) tube (1) and socket (7) for proper placement during assembly. b. Note number of exposed threads and relative position for proper placement during assembly. 2-930
