2-8. SCOPE
These general maintenance instructions contain general shop practices and specific
methods you must be familiar with to properly maintain the D7G tractor.  You should
read and understand these practices and methods before starting maintenance tasks on
the D7G tractor.
WORK SAFETY
2-9.
a.
Before starting a task, think about the risks and hazards to your safety as
well as others.  Wear protective gear such as safety goggles or lenses,
safety shoes, rubber apron, or gloves.  Protect yourself against injury.
When lifting heavy parts, have someone help you.  Make sure that lifting
b.
equipment is working properly, that it is suitable for the task assigned,
and is secured against slipping.
c.
Always use power tools carefully.
2-10. GENERAL INFORMATION
a.
Before beginning a task, find out how much repair, modification, or
replacement is needed to fix the equipment as described in this manual.
Sometimes the reason for equipment failure can be seen right away and
complete teardown is not necessary.  Disassemble the equipment only as far
as necessary to repair or replace damaged or broken parts.
b.
All tags and forms attached to the equipment must be checked to learn the
reason for removal from service.  Check all Modification Work Orders (MWO)
and Technical Bulletins (TB) for equipment changes and updates.
c.
In some cases a part may be damaged by removal. If the part appears to be
good, and other arts behind it are not defective, leave it on and continue
the procedure. Here are a few simple rules:
(1) Do not take out dowel pins or studs unless loose, bent, broken or
otherwise damaged.
